Mary E. “Grandma Mary” Drennen, 98, Palestine, IL. formerly of Oblong, IL passed at 12:57pm on Wednesday November 30, 2016 at Heritage Health in Robinson, IL.

Mary was born on February 8 1918 in Palestine, IL to Vernon Hyre and Ora Effie (Ellis) Hyre. On August 12, 1937 she married Byron Drennen who preceded her in death on April 13, 1972.

Mary was a homemaker and cleaned several homes for many years. She was a member of Pilgrim Holiness Church in Palestine, IL where she played piano for the church for many years. She attended Palestine Schools. Mary enjoyed crocheting, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan and loved her cats. Mary had a special talent for growing beautiful African Violets. Grandma Mary enjoyed and loved spending time with her family especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Mary is survived by six grandchildren Jamie Watkins and companion Paul Fuller of Dale, IN, Ritchie and Mamie Drennen of Urbana, IL, Jodie Redmon of Robinson, IL, Julie and Ray Cox of Red Bud, IL, Justin and Samantha Drennen of Robinson, IL and Jay Drennen, Flat Rock,IL; four great grandchildren Staci and Mark Miller, Quintin Carter and Adelie Drennen all of Robinson, IL and Hayley Ellis of Dale, IN. Mary is also survived by four great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two former daughters’-in-law Carlene Turnock of Winter Garden, FL and Jo and James Summersill of Flat Rock, IL.

Preceding Mary in death were her parents, husband, infant brother and infant sister and son James William Drennen in 2005,  Frank Turnock and Great granddaughter Kaycee Stewart and sister Fannie Woosley
